The settings relating to the network connection (internal/external) are configured here.

The HS/FS uses only IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) with 32-bit addresses.
If this document refers to an IP address, this is always an lPv4 address.

An exact description of this protocol can be found on the Internet (e.g. at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv4).
Note: Representation of an IP address
An IPv4 address is a 32-bit number which is usually represented in the form of 4 values, each in the range from 0 to 255, which are separated by full stops.

Example: 192.168.0.11

1.Configuring IP settings

Receiving the IP address automatically via DHCP
The HS/FS is assigned an IP address, the default gateway, and DNS when restarted from a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server.
At start-up, the HS/FS must be connected to the LAN.
The HS/FS waits a maximum of 2 minutes for a response from the DHCP server at start-up. If the DHCP server does not answer, the HS/FS has no IP address and cannot be reached via the network (see Assigning an IP address manually in case of an error).

When the HS/FS is started, a device name is transmitted to the DHCP server. If no device name is configured, "hs-[MAC-Adresse]" (for HomeServer) or "fs-[MAC-Adresse]" (for FacilityServer) is used.

If DHCP is used, it is recommended to have the DHCP server always assign the same IP address.
Device name (optional)
Via the device name, e.g. "my-hs", the HS/FS can be addressed via "[device name]" or "[device name].[Domain]" depending on the configuration in the network.

Examples for the common routers:
- AVM devices: "my-hs.fritz.box"
- UniFi devices: "my-hs.localdomain"

A valid device name has at least 2 characters. Only numbers, letters and the hyphen may be used. The name must not begin or end with a hyphen.
Important
To use this function, the DHCP server/router must support it.
Assigning the IP address manually in case of an error
If this option is selected and the DHCP server does not respond, the HS/FS uses the configured parameters for IP address, network mask, default gateway and DNS server (see below for details).
Assigning the DNS server manually
If this option is selected, the DNS servers assigned by the DHCP server are ignored and the configured DNS servers are used.
Own IP
Static IP address (IPv4) of the HS/FS.
Important
Only the values 0 to 254 can be used for the IP address of the HS/FS!
Network mask
The field is used for entering the network mask, often referred to as subnet mask or subnetwork mask.
Together with the IP address, this number indicates which network segment your computer belongs to.

A subnet mask is a 32-bit number which, in terms of the structure and representation, is identical to the IP address of the HS/FS.
Usually, the values 0 to 255 are used for the four blocks of a standard subnet mask (such as 255.255.255.0).
A detailed description can be found here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netzmaske).
Internal gateways
The HS/FS reaches systems lying outside the local address space via these gateways.
A gateway is a device which is connected to several physical TCP/IP networks which can forward or distribute IP packets to each other.
A gateway translates different transport protocols or data formats (for example IPX and IP) and is added to networks primarily due to this translation function.
Up to 10 internal gateways can be entered.

2.Gateway and DNS server

Default gateway
Is used to enter the IP address for the default gateway you want to add. This is the address of a local IP router which is located in the same network as this computer and which is used for forwarding data to destinations outside the local network.
The numbers 0 to 255 are permitted in these fields.
A gateway is a router which connects separate IP network segments to one another. For example, a network segment often needs a gateway for connection with a different network segment, a WAN (Wide Area Network), or the Internet.
DNS server
Field for the IP address of the preferred or primary DNS server for this HS/FS.
This server is used first to resolve DNS names requested by this computer and which cannot be resolved with local name resolution information to IP addresses.
Secondary DNS server
Field for the IP address of the alternative or secondary DNS server for this HS/FS.
This server is used if the DNS server specified in the preferred DNS server cannot be reached or cannot resolve the DNS names requested by this computer to IP addresses.

3.Information about the portal

This list displays the possible connection types:
No connection to the portal
The HS/FS does not support an Internet connection to a portal or www.dyndns.org.
Maintain connection to the portal
The HS/FS connects to the Internet automatically after start-up and maintains the connection.
In this case, access is possible via the portal.
Connect to the portal on demand only
The HS/FS only connects to the portal if the user has been configured in such a way that accessing a PIN (via a phone call to the HS/FS) will establish the connection.
The HS remains connected to the portal as long as the user is logged into the HS/FS, but at least for the validity period of the PIN.
Address
E.g. geraeteportal.gira.de or deviceportal.gira.com
Important
The address must not be preceded by “http://“ or “https://”!
Password
The HS/FS logs into the Internet portal with this password.
